Product Description
Numerous aircraft, including most of the earlier Pipers, are fitted with B.F. Goodrich/Hayes Models 840 and 841 four inch wheels. Replacement parts for these are difficult to obtain, particularly the P/N D22-43 expander tube, which has not been produced for many years.
In response to this, Grove Aircraft Landing Gear Systems Inc. has developed a standard aircraft-type brake disc and caliper system that solves the problem of difficult parts replacement, and results in a safer, more reliable system, with the added advantage of better braking and decreased maintenance.
This STC has been specifically designed to be easily adapted to aircraft in the field by a qualified Airframe Mechanic. The installation requires only standard hand and rivet tools. No modifications are required to be made on the gear leg, or any other part of the aircraft, other than the wheel assembly.
The main components of the retrofit include a brake disc, brake caliper and torque plate. The existing Scott master cylinders provide adequate pressure and volume and need not be replaced.
